Phyllis Kadlub has been with the band since 1959. After Dick Ellis passed away in 2015, Phyllis, his assistant conductor for 25 years, took over and gave it all her love and good humor. With the 2019 performance season over, she announced that she was ready to pass the baton, as described in a 2019 news article about the band celebrating 150 years of music. In 2023 Phyllis graciously stepped in to conduct once again mid-season.
Demitri Papadopoulos was RTB's conductor from 2022 through mid-2023. Born in Greece, Demitri was raised in Syracuse, NY. He earned a dual Bachelor's degree in Music Education at Syracuse University, and a Master's Degree in Wind Conducting at Rutgers University. Demitri began his professional career as instrumental music teacher at Kimball Union Academy 2019-2023. We wish him well as he continues his career in Northern Connecticut.
With special recognition and fond memories of our late director and friend, Dick Ellis, who also founded Ellis Music in Royalton. He did not start the Town band, but he revitalized it. He loved Royalton and conducted the band for 70 years (1946-2015).
