Conductors

Demitrios Papadopoulos

Demitri Papadopoulos joined RTB as its new conductor in 2022. Demitri was born in Greece and raised in Syracuse, NY where he attended Syracuse University. While earning his dual Bachelor's degree in Music Education (honors in tuba performance), he performed with the Pride of the Orange Marching Band among many other ensembles at SU. After graduating in 2016, Demitri moved to New Brunswick, NJ to begin his Master's Degree in Wind Conducting at Rutgers University. In a short two years, he worked as a graduate teaching assistant as well as performing public concerts with the various ensembles of Mason Gross School of the Arts.

After graduating from Rutgers University, Demitri began his career at Kimball Union in 2019, where he serves as the instrumental music teacher as well as director of Purely Orange Jazz, Chamber Ensemble, and Rock Band at KUA. He lives on campus with his dog, Coda.

Phyllis Kadlub

Phyllis Kadlub has been with the band since 1959. After Dick Ellis passed away in 2015, Phyllis, his assistant conductor for 25 years, took over and gave it all her love and good humor. With the 2019 performance season over, she announced that she was ready to pass the baton, as described in a 2019 news article about the band celebrating 150 years of music.

Richard Ellis

With special recognition and fond memories of our late director and friend, Dick Ellis, who also founded Ellis Music in Royalton. He did not start the Town band, but he revitalized it. He loved Royalton and conducted the band for 70 years (1946-2015).
